Missionary Work from Behind a Desk
When people think of missionaries, they often imagine priests
celebrating Mass in remote villages, religious sisters caring for the sick, or
lay missionaries traveling by boat to bring the Gospel to communities along the
river. These images are certainly part of missionary life, but there is another
side to the mission that is less visible.
My work takes place primarily in an office. I help with the
administrative and organizational responsibilities that support the life of the
Vicariate. This includes preparing correspondence, coordinating projects,
assisting with funding requests, communicating with benefactors, and helping
ensure that resources reach the communities and people who need them.
Much of this work involves connecting people who live thousands of miles
apart. A letter, a project proposal, a report, or an email may seem like a
small task, but it can become a bridge between someone who wants to help and a
community waiting for support.
Behind every document, there is a story. Behind every funding request,
there is a real need. Behind every successful project, there are people whose
lives may be improved because someone, somewhere, decided to care.
I have come to understand that office work can also be missionary work.
Every task, no matter how ordinary it may seem, can become an expression of
service when it is done with love and offered for the good of others.
